Dr Bijay Kumar Sahu is a technology, intellectual property (IP) and innovation management professional with more than fifteen years of work experience. Presently, he is heading Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC) and Technology & Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Govt of India at Visakhapatnam.


He is a postgraduate in science and earned his M Phil and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, specialised in IP rights and technological capabilities with special reference to biotechnology innovation.


He is a recipient of Royal Danida Fellowship (DFC) from Royal Kingdom of Denmark on Innovation Strategy and IPR Commercialisation received his executive Diploma from Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Denmark.


Recently, Dr Sahu on behalf of NRDC received National IP Awards from Government of India as the best Technology Innovation Support Centre in contributing IP, innovation and technology commercialisation for the year 2020. He is also recipient of IP Excellence Award from World IP Forum (WIPF) for the year 2021 for IP education and training and innovation management and received Global IP Convention Awards by GIPC during 12th Global IP Convention for the Year 2019. He received Assocham and IPTSE Award for the promotion of IP facilitation and innovation management in the country. He is considered as 100 IP Leader from India by the World IP Forum for the year 2018.


Dr Sahu was keynote speaker of United Nation (UNESCO-Edtech 2018) on “IP & Innovation in Educational Curriculum”. He has facilitated and managed many patents, trademark, design, copyright and other IP to various universities, startups, MSMEs, PSUs and transferred and commercialised many lab scale and proven technologies to various startups, MSMEs and industries. He has been playing an important role in academia and industry collaboration in innovation management and performed more than 100 agreements with various universities and academia in the country. He coordinated and organised more than 400 national and international seminars, workshops and conferences on IP, innovation and technology transfer and cooperation in the country and provided more than 800 lectures on entrepreneurship, innovation, IP, technology commercialisation and management. He is also managing the

IP and innovation of various PSUs like RINL, NALCO, OFB, BEML and many more PSUs.


Dr Sahu coordinated a Government of India Taskforce Study under DSIR on “Innovation Policies in China, Korea and Taiwan: Implication for India and also visited many countries. He is also a guest faculty on IP and technology management and mentor of many prominent institutions and universities Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in the country. He is a mentor and nodal officer for the IP of STPI, New Generation Entrepreneurships Programme (NGEP).


He is adjunct professor/ visiting professor and TBIs mentor of various universities in India and abroad. He is also a member of AICTE- Institutional Innovation Council of various universities, engineering colleges and academia in the country. He advised and mentored on IP and technologies to many startups and incubation centres in India.
